What You Need to Know about Dentures?

Fractured or missing teeth can be extremely embarrassing and to spare themselves the discomfort, patients with damaged, broken or missing teeth end up concealing their usual smile. Fortunately for them, dentures have been around for quite some time and used by dentist to give their patients a more confident smile as well as help them maintain their oral hygiene and dental health.

Dentures are used as a replacement for lost teeth and for the same reason; they are commonly referred to as false teeth. Basically dentures are prosthetic devices that are used by expert dentists to refurbish a patient’s dental composition, which is meant to enhance their oral cavity. Over the years, a number of patients have had their cavities fixed by either getting full or partial dentures.

So what is the difference between partial and complete dentures? Partial dentures, just like the name suggests, are dentures that are used to partially fill in the gaps left by one or more missing teeth. A partial denture has internal attachments and is removable rather than getting attached to the adjacent crowns. Full dentures on the other hand, are artificial teeth that dentist use to replace multiple missing teeth from either the upper jaw or the lower jaw. These kinds of dentures are the most difficult and complicated to install, because unlike with partial dentures, they have nothing to hold on to.

Alternatives to dentures include dental implants that be used to support cemented bridges. Although the cost is greater than that of dentures, dental implants more closely bear resemblance to real teeth.
