Before and After

Snoring is a very prevalent disorder affecting approximately one quarter of all Americans. Most often spouses of snorers will be affected the most. Many times they have to resort to earplugs, jabs to the ribs of the snorer or in extreme cases, separate bedrooms.

The Cause
Snoring usually occurs when a person's airway at the back of the throat constricts, causing air to be inhaled at a greater velocity and pressure. This results in the vibration of the soft tissue at the back of the throat, and hence the snoring noise. Snoring increases with age due to decrease in muscle tone. Men out snore women five to one. Heavy snoring is sometimes associated with hypertension, stroke and other cardiopulmonary problems.

The Remedy
The Snore Guard is a dental appliance that fits over the upper teeth and is worn at night. A ramp on the device moves the lower jaw forward and opens up the airway, allowing the person to breathe more easily and naturally. Research has shown the Snore Guard to be very successful in the treatment of simple snoring. Eighty-five to ninety percent of all patients fitted with the appliance have noticed either a reduction or a complete elimination of their snoring. It has been proven to be 80% successful in the treatment of some sleep apnea.

The Appliance
It usually takes about two to three nights to become comfortable sleeping with the Snore Guard. The appliance is fitted in one visit and can be completed in less than one half hour without any impressions, x-rays or lab work. The appliance is similar in shape to an athletic mouth guard. If you need to catch a couple more winks, this may be the appliance for you.
